I am running into a New Year
Fall on wet grey pavement
Literally
Figuratively
I decide to push myself up
Taste star drops on my tongue
Years linked together
Chains of paper dolls
Childhood intertwined by DNA
When did the bough break?
Along with your mind
Year of rocking horses
I am running into the New Year
On top a speckled spotted horse
Gallop along the Rio Grande
I keep up with the flow
Water rushes, shimmer
yellow reflects and clings to
White Aspen branches skinny like
Ballet dancers choreographing wind
I am running into the New Year
I knew you when you were
16, 26, 36, decades more
I forgive you if it helps
You bite, I still rescue
Paper doll pieces fall
Confetti snow in a snow globe
1 drowning is better than 2
Comfort quilted covered trundle
beds with rainbow colored stuff animals
London Bridges falling down
Ollie Ollie oxen free
I am running into the New Year
With or without you
Inspired by Lucille
Clifton's “running into a new year”
where do ladies lie
“Dead men tell no tales.”
Where do
ladies lie?
